Benthic Ecology Meeting Photomicrography Contest Rules

  1. Photomicrographs taken using transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and any kind of light microscopy, including confocal scanning laser microscopy, are eligible.
  2. Both color and black-and-white photomicrographs will be accepted.
  3. The contest is open to all BEM meeting participants; a maximum of two entries each. AMS membership (AMS membership) is recommended but not required.
  4. Submissions must be unmounted prints, with maximum dimensions of 8 X 10 inches, unlabeled and unsigned. A single line of information identifying the subject (e.g., “Larval Echinoderm”) and stating the microscopical technique (e.g., “SEM”) should be below the photograph.
  5. Entries will be accepted on the morning of the first day of the meeting at the AMS booth in the exhibit hall, where they will be displayed as a group. The deadline for submitting entries is Noon, Thursday March 17th.
  6. Voting begins the afternoon of  Thursday, March 17th and ends at noon on Saturday March 19th.  All meeting participants who visit the AMS exhibit are allowed one ballot.
  7. The winning entry and an honorable mention will be selected by popular vote, and will be announced at the banquet. The prize money of $100 will be sent by check to the winner after the conference.
  8. If you wish to reclaim your prints you can collect them on Saturday, March 19th from noon until the banquet.
  9. The author retains all rights to the entry. The author grants permission to AMS to publish the image; the winning image and honorable mention will be displayed on the AMS web site. If the image has been published previously, the author should obtain appropriate permission from the holder of the copyright.
